Ray LaMontagne and that certain kind of music

Ray LaMontagne has a new album. His band has finally earned itself a name for the album cover: the Pariah Dogs. Which hearkens to the country, the valleys of the west. There is a kind of music I’ve been wanting to listen to lately: rootsy; bluesy; soulful. Think Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, or the lesser known Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons. More folk than The Black Keys or The White Stripes.

Here’s some Ray for your consideration. The bottom video is one of his new songs.

“Empty”:

“Burn”:

“Jolene”:

“Trouble”:

cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”:

“To Love Somebody” cover with Damien Rice (two incredible vocalists):

new song “Repo Man”
